Michelle Hauser is a finalist in the 2015 National Newspaper Awards, in the column writing category. She is nominated alongside journalists Francois Cardinal from La Presse and Melissa Martin from the Winnipeg Free Press.

The award will be handed out at the NNA gala event in Edmonton on Friday, May 27th, 2016.

March 4, 2016 (Napanee, ON) Michelle Hauser was invited to speak at a conference at the Donald Conference sponsored by Providence Care. Approximately 100 people attended the day-long gathering. Of the presentation, conference organizers said:

"Michelle Hauser gave an entertaining and insightful talk on the subject of Elder Speak which was thoroughly enjoyed by our conference participants. She was our closing speaker on a Friday afternoon, a challenging spot, but her energy, humour and passion  enlivened the room and made for a powerful close to a productive session on 'Aging: Are we doing it right?'"

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) has named Michelle Hauser among the top three finalists for the 2015 Column Contest in the humour category, under 50,000 circulation.

Michelle has been nominated together with Roger Simon, Politico and Jerry Zezima, The Stamford (Connecticut) Advocate. "Roger and Jerry have had incredible careers" says Michelle, "both have columns in syndication across the United States. It's an honour just to be recognized alongside journalists of their calibre."

The third, second and first-place positions will be announced at the Awards Banquet during the 2015 NSNC conference on Saturday, June 27, at The Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis.

Formed in 1977, the NSNC is a California nonprofit organization that promotes professionalism and camaraderie among columnists and other writers of the serial essay, including bloggers.

For the second year in a row Michelle Hauser has been named a finalist by the Ontario Newspaper Awards in the Humour Writing Category.

Columns entered into this year's competition include:

Time for cat-loving generation x-ers to toughen up
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen good night
Overzealous tweets the last for the tooth fairy

Drew Edwards of the Guelph Mercury, winner of the 2013 humour award, has also been named as a finalist along with Joel Rubinoff of the Waterloo Record.

The awards will be handed out at the ONA gala in May.
